Mercaptopurine, also known as 6-mercaptopurine (6-MP), is a medication primarily used in the treatment of certain types of cancer, particularly acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). It belongs to a class of drugs known as antimetabolites, which work by interfering with the synthesis of DNA and RNA in cancer cells, ultimately leading to their death.
